Prepping For The 2018 NPC San Jose Championships – Russell Pickering preps for his first show training shoulders out of UFC Gym in Sunnyvale California.


Russell likes to begin his shoulder workout with his heavier lift first. He gets his ego out of the way by performing a heavy lift and pushes as hard as he can even allowing himself to falter on form slightly in interest of moving some big weight. The rest of the workout is slow, controlled reps focused on targeting and engaging the muscle.

Russell will bounce back and forth between a delt movement and a trap movement training delts and traps together. In this session he utilizes the OmniCompression Extreme Grip Wrist Straps to protect his wrists, take his forearms out of the movement, and guard against grip fatigue. Bouncing back and forth between delt and shrug exercises the forearms can fatigue rather quickly and rather than sacrificing load on the target muscle, Russell will strap up and invoke maximum hypertrophy.
